How often should my cat visit the vet in Dubai?
Kittens need multiple visits in the first year for their vaccination series, parasite treatment, and health checks. Adult cats (1–7 years) should be seen at least once a year for a wellness check and booster vaccines. Senior cats (7+) benefit from twice-yearly visits to catch age-related changes early — kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, and dental disease are common and manageable when found in time.
What vaccinations does my cat need in Dubai?
Core vaccines recommended for cats in Dubai are FVRCP (cat flu and feline panleucopenia) and rabies. FeLV (feline leukaemia) vaccination is recommended for cats with outdoor access or exposure to unknown cats. Kittens receive their initial series from 8–16 weeks, followed by annual or triennial boosters depending on the vaccine and your cat's lifestyle.
My cat seems fine but is losing weight — should I be concerned?
Yes. Weight loss in cats is rarely benign. Common causes include hyperthyroidism, kidney disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease, dental pain, and cancer. Cats are very good at masking illness until it is advanced, so unexplained weight loss — even if your cat is still eating and behaving normally — warrants a vet check and basic blood panel.
Is urinary blockage a cat emergency?
Yes — especially in male cats. A blocked bladder is a life-threatening emergency. Signs include straining to urinate without producing urine, crying or vocalising in the litter box, licking at the genitals, vomiting, and lethargy. What age should I spay or neuter my cat in Dubai?
We generally recommend spaying or neutering cats from around 5–6 months of age, before their first heat cycle. Spaying before the first heat significantly reduces the risk of mammary tumours and eliminates the risk of pyometra and unwanted pregnancies. We use modern anaesthetic protocols and multimodal pain management so recovery is smooth and comfortable.
